A solid, powerful workhorse used by top professionals Worldwide
Yamahaâs 62 baritone series saxes have become a modern classic and are used by leading professional players worldwide. Their strong clear sound, and excellent playability have set new standards in professional model saxophones. Now introducing the mark II version which incorporates much of the new research that Yamaha has done while developing their brand-new Custom model.
Description
Following on from the highly regarded YBS-62 the YBS-62II now takes its place. This new model includes three main differences that will have a big impact on its performance and playability; firstly, there is a shorter bell. This will help to offer more uniformity in the sound through the range of the instrument, as well as saving weight; secondly, Yamaha have lightened the keywork and made it more ergonomic. Again, this contributes to making the whole instrument lighter, but it also gives the player an even better feel under the fingers. Within this, Yamaha have implemented new designs to the front F, low A, octave key, palm keys and table keys; thirdly, strap-ring position has been reconsidered to offer a more natural playing position.
One further change beyond the three main points; there is a new and improved peg design, but please note that the YBS 62 doesnât come with a peg. This is available for purchase separately.Â
This latest 62 model benefits from a âtop-downâ design process where the R&D that goes into the latest Custom models applies where possible to the lower models. The YBS-62 uses Japanese brass at the centre of its construction â itâs only when you go to the level of the new YBS 82 that the spec changes to âCustom brassâ! The YBS-62 is constructed from a âtwo-pieceâ bell. Again, only when considering the 82 model will you benefit from the extra refinement of a 1-piece bell. The key posts on the YBS-62 are integrated on to a strapping system, giving a little more resistance in sound and solidity in design.
Also of note, the YBS-62 has a range of low A to high F#, whereas the 480 model below only runs to a high F.
This new mark II version includes a new âcampsis chinensisâ engraving!
