The all-new YBS 480 is here!
Following the success of the alto and tenor 480 models Yamaha have now introduced baritone into the mix, while incorporating many of the premium features of the new upper models that have also benefitted from the latest optimizations to come from the Yamaha factory.
Description
Following on from the highly regarded YBS-32 the YBS 480 now takes its place. This new model includes three main differences that will have a big impact on its performance and playability; firstly, there is a shorter bell. This will help to offer more uniformity in the sound through the range of the instrument, as well as saving weight; secondly, Yamaha have lightened the keywork and made it more ergonomic. Again, this contributes to making the whole instrument lighter, but it also gives the player an even better feel under the fingers. Within this, Yamaha have implemented new designs to the front F, low A, octave key, palm keys and table keys; thirdly, strap-ring position has been reconsidered to offer a more natural playing position.
One further change beyond the three main points; there is a new and improved peg design, but please note that the YBS 480 doesnât come with a peg. This is available for purchase separately.
This intermediate level baritone benefits from a âtop-downâ design process where the R&D that goes into the latest Custom models applies where possible to the lower models. In this case the YBS 480 shares the same quality Japanese brass that the 62 has â itâs only when you go to the level of the new YBS 82 that the spec changes to âCustom brassâ! There is a âtwo-pieceâ bell within the YBS 480, as there is in the 62. Again, only when considering the 82 model will you benefit from the extra refinement of a 1-piece bell. The key posts on the YBS 480 are directly soldered to the body, making the design slightly more lightweight and less resistant. For more resistance, the 62 upwards uses âintegrated key postsâ. Finally, the YBS 480 includes the same â62â neck that the YBS-62 uses. All in all, there is a lot of quality and high-level technology that is now being applied to this intermediate instrument, making it great value for money.
