The wait is over! The Selmer Axos tenor has arrived!  Iconic, lush Selmer Paris tones for a more affordable price!
Five years after the launch of the incredibly popular Axos alto Selmer have now released the tenor version. The concept of the Axos range is to provide a professional-level instrument that carries the same acoustic properties as other Selmer models, but at a more affordable price.
Description
Having a more affordable Selmer tenor in the marketplace certainly makes sense as the pricing of the other models is often so far out of budget for many players. This new Axos tenor will provide the solution. Its acoustic qualities are similar in character to the other current Selmer models and to an extent borrows from all of them.
Conceived by the Henri Selmer Paris Research and Development teams in collaboration with their acoustic consultants, each Axos tenor is born in their workshops in Mantes-la-Ville, near Paris.
The sound tube, consisting of the neck, body and bell, is made and accompanied by its set of keys.
After a strict control, these elements are transmitted to an industrial partner based in Asia, trained by Selmerâs teams, who take care of the finishing and assembly operations.
The instruments are then sent to Selmerâs workshops in Mantes-la-Ville for final quality control prior to packing and shipping.
This is partly the reason why the Axos tenor is more affordable than the other models.
Of note with this latest incarnation of Axos is the fact that Selmer have created a new floral engraving that draws from the history banks of Selmer designs. In addition, there is a new attractive darker lacquer which will align it more closely to the look of the Reference saxes.
In terms of its intended market, this sax has the flexibility in sound and quality to reach out to advancing students but equally, high-level demanding professionals alike. And within this it can adapt to any playing style, whether it be Classical, Windband, Rock, Blues or Jazz.

Staff Review
A much needed and welcome addition to the Selmer range. I think that itâs fantastic that we now have a new member of the Selmer family in the tenor range, and an instrument that will be accessible to so many more sax players round the world.
At this time of writing, I am still waiting to get my hands on one, but it should only be a matter of days before we receive our first batch, and then I shall be settling my curiosity. Judging by the quality of the Axos alto Iâm sure the tenor will be a well-researched instrument hopefully showcasing that distinct rich sound that Selmers are known for. Selmer have taken the opportunity to change the lacquer for a more appealing aesthetic and include a more elaborate floral engraving, whilst making one or two other minor changes. From here on in we will see these adjustments on the alto range too!
Currently I await with bated breath!
