A fantastic book which explores the high range of the saxophone, with exercises and techniques to achieve these tones, written by Sigurd M. Rascher. The topics covered in this book include: sustained tones; terrace dynamics; uniformity of tone character; tone imagination; octaves, fourths and fifths; natural overtones; overtone exercises; fingerings for tones above top F; special exercises; and scales in natural overtones.
Staff Review
In my opinion, this book is a must have! I keep going back to it every so often and I’ve owned my copy for well over 10 years! Even if you don’t have an ambition to play in the altissimo register, I’d still recommend this book because Rascher’s exercises are excellent for building lip strength, endurance, and overall tone quality. – Oren Gurney ([email protected])
