A superb student soprano from Trevor James!
Well-constructed, good ergonomics, solid intonation and free blowing, this model is a perfect for the beginner who wants to secure a decent start in their soprano journey.
Description
Having recently reviewed this soprano for our YouTube channel, this sax is still firmly in my memory as a very satisfactory student blower! I always look for good intonation as the first port of call, paying particular attention to the break area. If the gap around the C# to the D is wide then you’re in trouble. However, it is not! Beyond this, I check the octaves and see if they stack up in an even way, and they do! Of course, with the soprano it is imperative that you get the mouthpiece in the right position – if it is only half way down the cork then everything will be flat and the internal tuning will go out of whack; my tip is to position the mouthpiece three quarters down the cork and everything will click into place.
Beyond this, the tone is full bodied and even, and it plays well into the upper palm keys. I had a slight issue with there being a larger gap between the G# and the G than I would like/am used to. However, this can be overcome with a little time on the instrument.
All in all, a nice addition to the TJ family of saxophones.
